To this day, Walt Disney's FANTASIA stands as a landmark in motion picture history.  So unique was Walt Disney's achievement that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences- the Oscars- created two new Honorary categories to honor the film;  outstanding contribution to the advancement of the use of sound in motion pictures through the production of FANTASIA, and unique achievement in the creation of a new form of visualized music in Walt Disney's production FANTASIA, thereby widening the scope of the motion picture as entertainment and as an art form.  In 1990 the United States Library of Congress added FANTASIA to it's National Film Registry as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

In this rare letter, Walt Disney uses FANTASIA full color letterhead to thank a woman for sending his daughters handmade dolls of Madame Upanova, the Ostrich ballet dancer from the film.  Walt also responds to her suggestion that she might be of useful employment at the studio, and refers her to the head of Disney's Training Department.  Walt Disney has signed in bold fountain pen, with a signature from the same era as that used as the logo for the Walt Disney Classic Collection (see logo image at left).

The letter likely dates from 1941, but the date has been erased to point of leaving a small hole in the paper; the letter is in otherwise fine condition.  The color graphics include the iconic dancing hippo, centaur, baby Pegasus, and cherubs.  Letters from this early "Golden Age" of the Disney Studio are uncommon; the same is true of letters on this ornate FANTASIA letterhead.  Item # 3381, $3295
