A wonderful cel of Donald Duck irritated (of course!) by a bee. And best of all it is personally autographed by Walt Disney. This is an uncommon piece. Most often Walt Disney gave signed prints-- not original cels-- as V.I.P. gifts. And this wonderful cel is of Walt Disney's prolific Donald Duck no less. The Donald cel is from 1941's "Old
MacDonald Duck" (special thanks to expert
Todd Federman
for identifying the cartoon and the scene).
The matching frame appears 4 minutes 39
seconds into the short, as Donald scolds an antagonist fly, saying "Dog-gone
pest!" (Courvoisier, the
official retail distributor of Disney cels at the time, used a bee
when preparing this setup for sale, perhaps
because it made for a more interesting display).
Walt Disney has signed under this cel in his famous block
printing, the signature that forms the basis of the Disney Company logo: Cel is trimmed to outline of figure as was customary when Disney cels were
prepared for display after production.
Framed to an overall size of 17" x 16".
Mat shows overall light soiling; surface of mat cracked at
middle of left margin (see photo below). Minor discoloration to cel paint. Includes the
