Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse-- the two icons are inseparable. In 1953 John Hench created a painting of Mickey to honor his 25th anniversary. A limited number of prints were made and never sold-- but given by the Disney Studio to select recipients as special gifts. This LARGE and handsome dye transfer print of Mickey from the Walt Disney Studio is boldly autographed by Walt Disney on the matte in brown crayon. These high-quality prints were not available to the general public, but instead created at the Walt Disney Studio for promotional purposes (gifts to top-selling film salespeople, entertainment reporters, charity auctions, etcetera). Many of these prints went unsigned, others were signed by Disney employees signing on behalf of their busy boss, and a rare few- such as this wonderful piece- were personally autographed by Walt Disney. When signing prints like these, Walt Disney would choose a colored crayon from his desk which complimented a color in the print. Walt has inscribed the print in his famous block printing "TO TIM" and then signed it with a dark and bold WALT DISNEY signature. Includes a letter from the former owner explaining his father, who worked for Ford Motor Company, was responsible for oversight of the Disney-designed Ford Magic Skyway attraction at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair. During a dinner attended by Walt Disney the boy asked for a Mickey Mouse drawn by Walt Disney. Rather than draw one-- which Walt was admittedly not too polished at-- Walt later signed the mat of this Mickey Mouse print and sent it to the boy. The letter refers to this piece as a "celluloid," but in fact it is a print. Walt Disney designed four attraction for the New York World's Fair. Ford's Magic Skyway took guests on a ride through the history of transportation in brand new Ford convertibles. The dinosaurs-- representing fossil fuel-- ended up in California on the Disneyland Railroad after the fair. Attached to the back of the frame is original Walt Disney Studio mailing label and postage stamp from May of 1961! Also present is the original Disney Studio authenticity label, stating the Mickey Mouse print is "One of a select few that have been released." Today these prints are prized by collectors as one of
the most attractive and displayable of all Walt Disney autographed items.
This fine print is of Walt Disney's most famous character- the one considered Walt's alter ego- Mickey Mouse!
Measures approximately 21" x 18"
including frame. In very
fine condition as shown; condition of original mat under newer mats unknown.
A true presentation
piece! Includes the former owner's letter and the
